Vilmos Oláh started to play on the dulcimer when he was 7. He learned classical music only until he was 16.

 

 

He started his studies at the Bartók Béla Conservatory which he continued at Liszt Academy on dulcimer course. He graduated from chamber music and teaching.

 

He won several competitions, for example the Rácz Aladár dulcimer competition. He has got a lot of Tv and Radio records playing classical and folk music. He gave numerous concerts in Czech Republic, where they also made tv records with him.

 

In 1991 he represented Hungary on the Dulcimer World Congress in Pécs, where musicians played on every kinds of instruments related to dulcimer, from all around the world.

 

In 2000 György Vukán asked him to play on his Album IBERIA, on which Vilmos played together with the members of Creative Art Trio (György Vukán, Balázs Berkes, Elemér Balázs) and with the CA Symphony Orchestra.

 

He is interested in every genres which can be played on his instrument, besides classical music he is also interested in folk music as well as in jazz.

He is a founder member of the East Gipsy Band.

 

They played in numerous places, for example in London, Brussels, Paris, Canada, USA. They had concerts in Blue-Note, Jazz Standard, Drom, Deer Head Inn, New York. The band also attended to the Detroit Jazz Festival.
